Volunteer Duties |
Our process for becoming a volunteer is orientation, species specific training, which we call dog, cat or rabbit TLC training, and then at least one mentoring session (it depends on the skills and ability of the individual. More training is offered if needed.)
Upcoming Volunteer Information Sessions (VIS): They are held twice monthly, one on a Saturday morning and one on a Wednesday evening. Starting in April, two sessions will be offered on one Saturday. How Do I Become a Volunteer?
1. Fill out our Volunteer Application. This is an online form, and submitting it creates your volunteer profile in our system.http://www.scanimalshelter.
2. Pre-register for and attend your chosen General Volunteer Orientation (GVO). Registration link at the top of the Volunteer Application. At this session you will learn about the shelter and about available volunteer opportunities. Upcoming GVO dates are listed on the sign-up page.
3.You'll be asked to sign up for the species you choose to work with at your General Volunteer Orientation Attend a species-specific training for cats, dogs, or rabbbits. At your species-specific training you will get informatio tailored to the shelter guidelines for that specific species.
4.Mentoring is next and you will contact an experienced volunteer to lead you as you are learning. Here is where the hands-on work with the shelter animals really starts.
5. Schedule your shifts When you and your mentor believe that you are ready, and begin working. You are now an official volunteer — welcome aboard!
6. Volunteers are expected to be able to give a minimum of two hours a week for the first 6 months.
Monthly continuing education workshops are available for SCCAS Volunteers.
